ABOUT
In order to share anthropogenic [human inhabited] space with forest biodiversity we have designed and established the worlds first Analog Forest (AF). It is a forest that is 'similar to a native forest' in its structure and function, but includes a mix of native and exotic tree species that are useful for humans.
We offer:
Analog Forestry and related education workshops
(affiliated with the International Analog Forestry Network IAFN)
Visits and lodging available by appointment only
during the 1st and the 10th of every month
Belipola Arboretum offers you the hands-on-experience of how forest functions can be restored in a very short time supported by ecological succession and established through an early onset of ecological maturity. At Belipola this maturity is complemented by a mix of rare & useful plant diversity.
What you can experience :
- Collection of Native / Exotic and rare trees
- Study AF methodology
- Create your own AF
- Research opportunity [Soil, Biomass, Habitat and Biodiversity]
- Building value-chains / Creating new economic potential for Restoration
Belipola Arboretum is a man made forest where ecological ideas are practiced in experimental as well as experiential ways. Residencies and research opportunity is available.
