Ecological Succession

Microhabitats are an observable stage of ecological succession. A natural order of growth...

Ecological Succession : The grass in the middle is struggling in a hostile environment, but

once it gets covered by lichens and liverworts which fix some carbon at the surface it helps

the mosses to grow, the mosses in turn increase the living soil greatly and now the grasses

can grow luxuriantly. A forest matures and grows in a similar manner.

Planning for ecological succession is a principle practice in Analog Forestry, as demonstrated here in Belipola Arboretum, Sri Lanka
